I am driven and passionate about being responsive to the brokenness caused by oppressive ideas influenced by inhumane cultures and immoral societal standards. I am a visionary for changed mindsets and I believe it starts with getting to the heart of the problem, which is addressing what has been lost and broken from within our souls and understanding what influences our triggers. For social dysfunctions to change, the root cause has to be uprooted: 'The ugliness of the human heart.' As a deep conscious thinker, I am a firm believer that we need to change the way we see things for the things we see to change. Focusing a lot on portraiture I don't exuberate the full expression of positive and healthy change, which I desperately yearn for in the lives of those around me. Every colourful detail is a reminder that there is a world that exists beyond our pain and strife. A world full of passionate praise and connection with God: 'Love.' Love has always been and will always be. Each piece tells a unique story that captures real-life events and special untold moments with people in my life. In response to social ills such as mental health stigmas, gender-based violence, and gender inequality, my artwork reflects the mirror each person needs to reflect onto themselves to understand and examine their hearts in relation to what role they play in contributing to these horrors in our communities. My artwork seeks to educate my audience to be more consciously aware of themselves.

About the Artist

Kganya Mogashoa (b 1994) is the founder of Koranges Art (pty) Ltd. She is currently working and based in South Africa, Johannesburg. She enrolled at the University of Johannesburg to study Interior Design (2013 – 2016) where she obtained her Btech Honours Degree, and eventually quit her full-time job to pursue her passion for Visual Art in December 2019.

She is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist who creates mixed media and primarily oil paintings. She focuses mainly on portraiture. Her artwork is inspired by people in and around her life, her journey with God, her heartfelt life events, and the desire to resolve social ills closely related to women and mental health.

As a contemporary artist, her desire to seeing a changed narrative propels her to capture moments, inspiring women or general people in her life that reflect the change she wants to see. In her most recent series she explores various techniques, incorporating the richness of colour to suggest the inclusion of people from all ethnic backgrounds, placing an emphasis on the reality of mental health on every person.

“I #LivetoTell the story of a restored world. Through my artistic expression, I intend to restore joy, dignity, and a meaningful sense of love in people’s hearts during the unprecedented times we are living in, by also challenging the status quo in people’s ideas and belief systems.”
