The Weber Family

2024 Recipients of the Changing Minds Award

In 2019, the Weber family experienced an immeasurable tragedy when they lost their son, Jake, to suicide.

Jake was the youngest of six children and the only son to his parents, Jamie and Bill. He was loved by his sisters Brittany, Sun, Maddie, Sarah, and Rebecca, as well as his “big brother.” Mike. He was a hard-working 19-year old who had an entrepreneurial spirit and a “can-do” attitude, as he started his own landscape company at the age of 16.

For unknown reasons, Jake took his life on July 18, 2019, and his family and friends were left with unimaginable loss and questions that will never be answered.  In an effort to turn their pain into purpose, and to ensure that no other family would experience the devastation that comes from losing a loved one by suicide, the Webers established The Jake Weber Fund at Minding Your Mind.

Over the years, donations to the fund have provided Minding Your Mind programs in schools throughout Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania. For their selfless devotion to suicide prevention and mental health education, for their tireless dedication to Minding Your Mind, and their contributions to the greater Philadelphia community, we will gratefully honor the Webers at this year’s A Celebration of Life: Philadelphia.

History of A Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life began in 2011 to honor the memory of Kyle Craig, a 21-year-old student at Vanderbilt University who took his life in May of 2010. Kyle was a dynamic friend to many; a bright, handsome, and gifted individual across music and athletics, but whose strength of character enabled his growing struggles to be hidden from view.

In the 13 years since it began in Nashville, this annual event has expanded to New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, engaging thousands of young professionals in the service of suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
