“Just Talk About It” Community Forum at Westwood High School (MA)

February 6, 2018 @ 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm

A Discussion About Stress, Anxiety, Depression, and Bullying

Join Minding Your Mind for an interactive presentation on mental health, designed to train both adults and youth on how to recognize the warning signs of stress, anxiety, depression, and crisis. Just Talk About It will educate parents, adolescents, and the adults who support them to look beyond stigma and notice warning signs in themselves and their peers.

In this introduction to youth mental health, participants will come to understand ways to assist others, how to cultivate positive coping skills, and ways to ask for help. Topics addressed will include anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm, and the difference between positive and negative coping mechanisms.

Through the Just Talk About It presentation, individuals will learn about the following:

  • stigma regarding mental health
  • the most common causes and effects of stress and anxiety
  • negative and positive coping skills
  • the symptoms of depression
  • what is considered a crisis
  • the warning signs most often associated with self-harm and suicide
  • how to help a student and/or friend who is experiencing a mental health issue or crisis

JonThe evening will be facilitated by Jon Mattleman, MS in Counseling and clinical facilitator for Minding Your Mind.

This presentation is open to the community and designed for parents and other adults who work with adolescents and teens.  Material presented in the evening program is appropriate for students middle-school age and above.
