Traditionally a mitzvah project is an important part of becoming a bat or bar mitzvah where you come up with your own way to give back and help others.
I knew I wanted to do something that could both help people all over the world and that impacts me directly. I choose to do a mitzvah that brings awareness to mental health through conversation. I am partnering with two orgaizations: Patch Therapy and Minding Your Mind.
Patch Therapy connects fashion and mental health awareness, through customizable apparel and patches, designed to inspire expression, storytelling and community.
Minding your Mind’s objective is to provide educational experiences from the speakers’ own mental health challenges to students by teaching them to look for signs and symptoms of mental health in yourself and your peers.
My goal is to see my community wearing these sweatshirts around town, understand that we are not alone in our feelings, and to raise enough money for Minding Your Mind to provide assemblies for the three grades at my school, Roosevelt Intermediate School, during mental health awareness month next May.
Thank you for your support!! Dylan
Minding Your Mind provides mental health education and suicide prevention training programs in schools and communities around the country. The organization’s goal is to end the stigma and destructive behaviors often associated with mental health issues. By increasing help-seeking behavior, Minding Your Mind programs move away from crisis-based response to prevention through education.
