Kit McCann, LMFT

They/Them

Kit McCann, LMFT, is a licensed therapist in both New York and New Hampshire, and has nearly two decades of experience working with children, adolescents, teens and adults in a variety of settings. Kit believes that every person has a story to tell, and that being able to find beauty, strength and empowerment through one’s own story is the true nature of mental health
intervention. Every person exists within the constellation of their community, and no matter whether that community consists of a family, a partnership, a social group, a team, or a classroom, being able to find peace and positive energy within that community is attainable and worth the journey.

Kit received their master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Mercy College in 2010, as well as an additional two-year post-graduate certification from the Ackerman Institute for the
Family in 2012. Early in their career, Kit worked extensively in home-visit crisis intervention, as well as group therapy for elementary-aged children in the Bronx, NY. After moving to New England, Kit primarily served as an outpatient therapist in both community mental health centers as well as private practice, and ran therapeutic group sessions with teens.

Kit’s presentation style is dynamic, empathetic, and engaging. Kit approaches every workshop with open flexibility to meet the unique needs and energy level of each individual group. In addition to their comprehensive work as a therapist, Kit worked for many years at Mad Science of Maine, leading science workshops in elementary and middle schools across the state. Kit was formally trained in improvisational theater at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City as well as Improv Olympic in Chicago, and has extensive, continuing experience teaching improv theater to children and adults. Kit has found that the core tenets of improv translate beautifully to therapy and community work: accepting, believing, and building in tandem upon the reality and experience that others present to you.

Kit is located in Maine. In-person speaking engagements outside that area may require a fee for travel expenses.
