Fabian Escobedo, LCSW

Fabian Escobedo comes to Minding your Mind with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in social work from San Diego State University. He is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy to teens, young adults, and their families in both English and Spanish. Drugs, gangs, and organized crime surrounded Fabian in his upbringing. Witnessing his community deteriorate and young teens making poor choices that negatively impacted them for the rest of their lives, Fabian reflected on wanting to make a difference for disadvantaged youth and their families to help break the cycles of violence and intergenerational traumas. Throughout his professional journey, Fabian has worked with youth experiencing homelessness, K-12 students, state agencies, non-profits, and colleges, providing 1:1 and group therapy. Complementing his mental health services, Fabian provided college advising to ensure first-generation and low-income students graduated high school and pursued post-secondary education.

Fabian works with a non-profit that addresses the sever problem of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) in San Diego, providing psychotherapy to young teens (12-21) to help with their healing and recovery. In this work, he was exposed to the child welfare system, foster care system, and juvenile justice system, and experienced first-hand how many professionals lacked the knowledge and interventions to support young survivors with severe, complex traumas. Fabian is an advocate for child survivors of sex trafficking, families, communities, and other professionals, including participating in a documentary on sex trafficking and news interviews.

Fabian is well-versed in treating substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and complex traumas (specifically sexual traumas) with various modalities, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and EMDR. He advocates for harm-reduction, and trauma-informed approaches, and meets clients where they’re at mentally and emotionally to begin their healing journey.

Fabian is based in San Diego, CA. In-person speaking engagements beyond 90 miles may require a fee for travel expenses.
